Charter school principals must ensure that all teachers are
in-field (under state statute and as defined in the Course Code
Directory). According to Florida State Board Rule 6A-1.0503(3),
the District School Board must approve all instructional
personnel who are assigned to teach out-of-field and parents of
students being taught by a teacher who is out of field must be
notified. Failure to meet out-of-field requirements may lead to
a loss of FTE funding.
The following procedures must be followed to ensure
compliance and reduce the loss of limited resources:
- Request prior approval for out-of-field assignment
(except ESOL)
- Seek Board approval prior to FTE Survey Week
- Publish names and subject areas of out-of-field teachers
in parent newsletter dated prior to FTE survey week and send
copy of newsletter to
Robert Brown, Internal Auditing Department
- Fulfill of out-of-field requirements by the teacher
Ensuring, assessing, and reporting this information
accurately and promptly is the sole responsibility of the
principal. As a courtesy from our Department of Personnel
Services, the following documents are provided to assist charter
school principals with these critical responsibilities.
